i was 7th in my region with a 203 (i had a 204 at district), so it wasn't that bad, 2 ppl from a&m beat me and 4 ppl from klein beat me. suprisingly i don't feel that bad either, i got to the end of the 3rd column, missed 8, all stupid mistakes, but i did not choke that bad this time. i gave my best shot at it, and the other 6 above me were just better than i am...so...how did you all do?
btw, we beat a&m's calculator team, with a team score in the 650's, so we came in 2nd and is waiting for other regions' 2nd place team scores...everything's cool...
Bah! Well I bombed. I shouldn't say bombed. But I bombed. I thought I did fairly well after the test, got to 72, maybe missed 8 or 9. I was expecting about a 250. Missed 18 and got a 193. It was a strange experience. Other results:
Comp sci - tied for first w/ 224 - congrats to Robby (tough region!) and by the way, do happen to have the test? I missed 7 and 37, but I haven't seen the test.
Math - second w/ 202 (210 with corrected number 14)
Number Sense was pretty good. I got a 170 and got second place. The winning score was a 186, so Quincy's right... he would've won my region with his 203. I got to number 71 but missed around 20.
In math, I got a 238 and placed fourth. I only missed four problems though, and two of those were careless mistakes, but even if I'd answered those two right, i would've still been off from state.
Good luck to all going to state, and congratulations,
Well, first there was number sense. Surprisingly, I got the best score on our team, but it probably only happened because Thomas was up until 4:30 playing Unreal Tournament on my computer that morning. I took 11th of 43 with a 94, my best score yet. Yes, I do suck.
In the afternoon, after Vojtech and Cody spent about three hours studying Scroggs' tests, we got to computer science. I found out that Lake Travis, the rival school with last year's state champion, had made team competition as a wild card. I took the test, which was easier than the district tests, missed the easiest problem on it, and was one of three first place winners. But first...
It's time for the math test! I jump up from my seat in the computer science room with 5 minutes to spare (which I would later regret - I didn't check my answers), and run across the UTSA campus. This would be a good time to tell you all that I was extremely ill that day. Wheezing and fully incapable of thinking, with my throat stinging as though singed and a great pinching pain in my chest, I briskly limp into the room. All our coach brought was a TI-82... whatever. I take the test, do better than usual, but don't place. I got 10th of 44 with a 138.
It is then time to repeat the little marathon. This time, I buy a soda on the way, so I won't be wheezing during the programming contest. I get 7 out of 10 problems there, and then it's over. We have 2 programs with seemingly non-existent bugs that only turn up in one test case, just to annoy us. I feel like a damn failure at this point, even though a perfect programming score would only have gotten us a tie for the alternate team. The three gold medals go out for the written test, and we leave.
I'm going to state in computer science, and I can only hope for a more difficult test.
I love being the only math kid on this forum who refuses to do math...
Saw the scores at region... sigh. The math tests must've been slightly harder. I mean, for the love of god, harder. I am rather surprised that Vinay did not win out of her region in Math, because that seemed to be her strong suit. Quincy, I am sorry, but you were screwed even before you came to competition. I cant really see how anyone will stop Klein and A&M at the rate theyre going, Cringe*. Everyone else in 4A however, really doesnt have an excuse unless you were in science. Craig Wilson and the Friendswood girl owned everyone with scores in the 320's. The comp sci test was apparently easy; I cant wait to take it and then boast about my score later. jk.
I rather decided to do social studies. I recieve a 1st there, but its just not the same as winning a math/science event. I guess I should now actually prepare for state in SS, rather than relying on what I studied at the beginning of the year.
yeah...i was kinda screwed even b4 i went to region...but i had no choice other than moving forward. again, i gave it my best shot, i have no objections.
Congrats to everybody who's going to state! I'll be there, but not of my own doing (alt. for accounting). I was all ready to take the #sense test, got in the room, took the test.... and got one of my worst scores of the year. It's embarassing, but i'll say it anyway... 86. I guess i just crack under pressure. (I screwed up at TMSCA State too) I should've had at least a 150. I think i'm gonna study some this summer, and keep up my "skills", so it doesn't happen again my senior year.
